Shape Control and Custom Attributes

Ok, suppose I have an object that is path deformed to a circle shape, now I want to offset the radius of the circle as well as the PathDeform(WSM)'s Percent parameter based on the particle's Birth Index, so I've created custom attributes in the base level of my object and have wired them to control the aforementioned parameters, it works fine in the control panel, but as soon as I expose those custom attributed in the shape control data op they stop functioning.

Bug? or is it that that's not possible at all in box#3, really hope it's not the latter.

Also, can I ask why is it that the WSM's parameters can't be exposed in Shape Control?

PS: Tested on Max 2104 and 2015.

Is the question unclear? or am I just asking a silly question here? either way, can somebody let me know? better asking than not knowing, I thought. :)

hey~! sorry late response.

I've tried to do similar things. Wire parameters do not function properly with data ops.

You need to hardcode the cust attributes into your objects position script track.

select position xyz track append it into a position list. now there will be an available position track. assign a position script to it. link your custom attributes to your radius, percent on track in here. make sure you leave the [0,0,0] in there as the last line.

Now dataop will read your custom attributes and it will work! Smile

Hey nickolay,

Thanks a lot for the tip, yep it seems that's the way to go, still I find it odd that we should resort to that workflow for this, but at least there's a way. Smile

Thanks again for the reply, really appreciate it.

no problem! Glad you got it working!

I'm guessing wire parameters doesn't work because they are towards the top of the chain of commands while something like a script operator is somehwere below it. Dunno just a guess!
